Beat the Property Crisis and Sell Your Home with Style

Having difficulties selling your home?

If slumping property prices mean you’re having trouble selling your house at its full asking price then don’t drop your price just yet. A few small touches here and there to your home could be all the house needs to sell in a stagnant market.

The latest shocking figures on the housing market come from a survey by the National Association of Estate Agents which reports that sale prices were slashed by nearly £17,000 in one week alone in November. This does mean that if you’re looking to buy a house then you may be able to find one at a cheaper price. However, sales in the past years have fallen by more than half as people seem reluctant to take out loans and mortgages and get into even more debt.

So what do you do? You have a house to sell and you want it to be sold at a good price so you can move on. The housing market traditionally slows down anyway in the winter months but this doesn’t have to be a negative thing. This gives you two months to make your home so desirable that buyers will be desperate to buy it – at the asking price of course!

The Kitchen

It’s no secret that a great kitchen can sell a property by itself. By using inexpensive extras such as stainless steel free standing shelves or a movable stainless steel island, you can create an enduring, modern look. Installing some stylish quality blinds can add a touch of colour to what is normally quite a plain room and also let in plenty of natural light to brighten up your kitchen.

The Living Room

For most people the living room is a place to retreat and enjoy quality time with the family. It’s best to keep the majority of the colours, patterns and fabrics in the living room in neutral colours as very vibrant shades could put buyers off. Try using a bolder colour on the chimney breast or just one wall or maybe even experiment with bold colours on your cushions to give the room a cosy and inviting feel. You can also add warmth by investing in some blinds for the windows in your living room which will give the room a fresh feel and they can be rolled back on darker days to let more natural light in.

The Bedroom

The bedroom should be a place to relax, unwind and of course sleep. Lurid colours and oppressive furniture should be removed so you can create an oasis of calm. Fluffy pillows and a huge duvet will certainly make the bed seem inviting but be careful not to choose overly feminine or masculine colours as this could limit your target market. A few stylish candles and some inexpensive value blinds in a soothing colour will also make the bedroom seem like a place your potential buyers would want to rest their heads.

The Bathroom

How you style your bathroom will largely depend on the type of buyer you’re attracting. A family bathroom should be spacious with plenty of storage while a young professional bathroom can by funky and stylish. Investing in a large mirror will make the room seem larger, as will bright lighting. Quality blinds in a creative pattern can be a feature of the room and can help to make windows a focal point. Roller blinds are the best option for bathroom window blinds as they can come with a wipe clean finish.

By adding these all important touches to your home, you can create a welcoming and attractive space. You even may find you don’t want to sell it after all!
