How to Kickstart Your Housework

Tips

Very few people relish the idea of housework, and even fewer feel they really have the time to keep on top of things as much as they would like. We all get a little behind sometimes and isn’t it just the worst when you realise an impromptu visitor is going to turn up in twenty minutes? Or perhaps you only have twenty minutes and you just don’t feel that’s enough time to make a start. Here are some quick and basic ways to kickstart your housework to get you back on top of things – think of it as a to-do list if you will!

  • Load the dishwasher. And if you don’t have a dishwasher, get those dishes soaking in hot, soapy water! It tidies them off the sides, gets them ready for easy cleaning later, and takes seconds!

  • Put a wash on. Getting a load of laundry on can often spur you on to do more, but if nothing else, it clears away some mess. Plus, you can get on with other things knowing that something is basically being done for you!

  • Make the beds. A made-up bed can make all the difference to a messy bedroom. Suddenly, the room will seem much tidier and it only takes a minute!

  • Take the bins out and open the windows. No, we’re not implying that your house smells! But there’s never any harm in freshening a room (or whole home) up a little. Plus, there’s something cheery and motivating about open windows, isn’t there? Providing it’s not too cold, that is…

  • Tidy the hallway. Straighten that pile of shoes, neaten up the coat stand, and give it a quick hoover. This is just a five minute job but it’s one that helps to set the tone when guests (and you!) walk in.

Doing all of the above should take twenty minutes or less and can make all the difference to your home! Plus, it will give you a kickstart for when you have time to do more!
