  2. Measure the width across the top, middle and bottom of your window
  3. Note the height and measure left, right and middle of your window
  4. Use the smallest recorded numbers for height and width as your final figures

Roller blinds are one of the most versatile window dressings available. They’re also one of the easiest types of blinds to install. They come in a stylish array of colours, prints and designs – so you’ll find the perfect option for your home in no time.

You’ve found the roller blind that suits your interior flair, but before you order, you’ll want to make sure you have the best measurements for a great fit. To help you out, we’ve created a guide on how to measure for roller blinds.

Where do you want your blinds to hang?

Before you start measuring, you need to choose where your blind will hang in your window. When measuring for a roller blind, you can choose between a face fix and a top fix. A face fix sits above the recess on your wall, so your blind will completely cover your whole window and recess. A top fix is attached to your lintel and sits within the recess of your window, dropping to just above your sill – providing a tidy look.

When you’re making this decision, try to think about how the blind will fit in your interior. If you’re considering a top fix, look out for any obstructions such as window handles or photo frames on the sill that may get in the way. If a face fix is on the cards, look out for radiators beneath your window, which could affect the way the blind hangs.

Once you’ve figured out which way you want to hang your roller blind, you can start measuring.

Top fixing

If you want to fit roller blinds within your recess, measure the area like this:

  1. Measure the width of the window, starting at the top. Use the edges of the window recess as your guide.
  2. Now measure across the middle and bottom of the window. When you have three measurements, use the smallest as your final figure.
  3. Take three measurements over the height of your window, too. This will be from the lintel to the sill. Measure on the left, right and middle. Choose the smallest measurement as your drop height.

Face fixing

Measuring roller blinds above the recess is straightforward. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Starting at the top, measure across the width of the window. When you have your measurement, add another 120mm to it.
  2. Then measure across the middle and the bottom of the window, adding 120mm to each figure. The smallest number will be the final one.
  3. Once you have your width, measure from the top of where your fitting will sit, to where you want it to drop. With a face fix this can be below the sill, as long as there are no obstructions.

Once you have chosen how your blinds will hang and you have your final measurements, you can start shopping for your favourite roller blinds. Once you’ve made your selection, just input your measurements and place your order. From there, we’ll get to work on creating them and your made-to-measure blinds will be with you in no time.
