How do Double Roller blinds work?

Double Roller blinds combine two separate roller blinds within one clever system, giving you greater control over light and privacy throughout the day. One layer uses a sheer, voile-style fabric that gently filters daylight and provides a degree of daytime screening, while the second uses blackout fabric for increased privacy and light control.

Both layers operate independently, so you can raise or lower either blind depending on the time of day. The front blind is controlled from one side and the rear blind from the other, making it easy to switch between softly filtered daylight and greater coverage when you need it.

What are the benefits of Double Roller blinds?

The biggest advantage of a Double Roller blind is versatility. Instead of choosing between a sheer blind and a blackout roller, you get the benefits of both at the same window.

During the day, the voile layer can help soften bright sunlight while maintaining a light and airy feel. When you want more privacy or reduced light, simply lower the blackout layer. This makes Double Roller blinds particularly useful in rooms where your needs change between daytime and evening.

Their streamlined design also gives you this flexibility without having to install two completely separate blind systems.

Do Double Roller blinds provide privacy?

Yes. Double Roller blinds offer flexible privacy by allowing you to choose which layer covers your window. The sheer voile provides daytime screening while still allowing natural light through, whereas the blackout layer provides much greater privacy when lowered.

Bear in mind that sheer fabrics are not designed to provide complete privacy, particularly at night when lights are switched on inside your home. For greater evening and nighttime privacy, use the blackout blind.

Are Double Roller blinds blackout?

Every Double Roller blind includes a blackout fabric layer designed to block light through the material when lowered. Like other Roller blinds, however, small amounts of light can still enter around the sides, top and bottom of the blind.

This makes them a great choice when you want significantly reduced light alongside the option of a sheer daytime blind, without permanently keeping your window covered by blackout fabric.

Which rooms are best for Double Roller blinds?

Double Roller blinds work particularly well in bedrooms, living rooms and home offices where both privacy and changing light levels are important.

In a bedroom, you can enjoy softly filtered natural light through the voile during the day before lowering the blackout layer at night. In living spaces, the two layers give you more flexibility to manage glare, privacy and daylight without completely covering the window.

They can also be suitable for kitchens and bathrooms where the selected fabrics are appropriate for the environment.

Can Double Roller blinds be fitted inside a window recess?

Yes. Double Roller blinds can be fitted inside a suitable window recess or outside the recess using an Exact fitting.

The double bracket is larger than the bracket used for a standard Roller blind, measuring approximately 13.5cm deep with a 10.5cm drop when fitted. It's important to check that your recess has sufficient depth and that there are no window handles or inward-opening windows that could obstruct the blind.

If your recess is 135mm deep or less, or your window opens inwards, we recommend choosing an Exact fitting outside the recess.

Can Double Roller blinds be fitted outside a window recess?

Yes. Fitting a Double Roller blind outside the recess is a great option where there isn't enough recess depth to accommodate the double bracket.

When measuring, allow enough width for the blind to overlap the window opening. We recommend an overlap of at least 35mm on each side to help provide good coverage.

Remember that the fabric itself is approximately 35–40mm narrower than the overall blind width due to the control mechanisms, so take this into account when deciding how much overlap you need.

How do you fit Double Roller blinds?

Double Roller blinds use a single set of brackets to support both roller layers and can be top or face fixed, depending on where you're installing them.

Your blind is supplied with the required brackets and full fitting instructions. Once the brackets have been securely fitted using appropriate screws and wall plugs for your surface, the Double Roller system can be fitted into position.

Are Double Roller blinds made to measure?

Yes. Our Double Roller blinds are made to measure for your window, giving you a neater fit than standard ready-made sizes.

For a Recess fitting, simply provide the full width and drop of your recess and we'll make the appropriate width deduction. Alternatively, choose Exact fitting if you want your blind manufactured to the exact dimensions you provide.

A standard Roller blind uses a single fabric, whereas a Double Roller blind combines two independently operated fabrics at the same window.

A standard blind is a simple choice if you only need one type of light control. Double Roller blinds offer greater flexibility by combining a sheer voile with a blackout fabric, allowing you to adapt your window covering between daytime and nighttime without needing two separate blinds.
