3 Simple Upcycling Ideas
Tips

Whether you’re an avid crafter, beginner DIY-er, or simply someone who’s hoping to decorate their home without spending a small fortune, you’re sure to love the occasional DIY project. So, just in case you’re stuck for ideas, we’ve put together some of our favourite craft projects for you to get stuck into. Like you, we love projects that look good, cost little, and won’t take a year to make! Enjoy!
1. Make a table out of suitcases
This is so simple, it hardly counts as upcycling but many people would simply never think of it! Simply take some old suitcases and stack them up in size order. Hard cases work best for this, but if you have soft ones, simply fill them with bedding or blankets to bulk them out – and help out with storage. You might want to use a small cloth on top to prevent damage. Then, simply keep your coasters or ornaments on top, just as you would a normal side table. Gorgeous!
2. Create shelves from crates
Rather than throw out old wooden boxes or crates, think about whether you can use them to create a wall shelf that’s both handy for storage and makes a lovely wall feature. Paint your crate if needed, or leave it bare if you can, and then attach it to the wall by the base, so that the base forms the back of the shelf. Then you’ll have not only the inside of the crate to use as one shelf, but another on top too!
3. Use a ladder as shelving
Do you have an old wooden ladder that you’re loathe to throw away? Make good use of it by using it as additional shelving. Try using it as a cool, standalone bookshelf in the bedroom or hang it on a wall and use it for trinkets. Remember to secure it properly to ensure that it’s safe!
