To begin with, it’s really important to buy blinds from a reputable supplier and to ensure they’re British and European Safety Standard compliant. Here at 247 Blinds all of our blinds are made to comply with these standards. Our designs have an inbuilt safety mechanism and all cords and chains are made at maximum length of one metre. In fact, many of our styles are made safer and more pleasing to the eye by having cords and controls fully enclosed, like our day night blinds (featured above).

Remove temptation

Another sensible safety precaution is remove temptation to try and keep kids away from windows and window dressings. Ensure furniture like tables and chairs aren’t positioned nearby windows as they could tempt children into climbing. We have lots of printed and colourful options among our selection which all meet health and safety recommendations and are perfect for kids’ rooms and nurseries, like our little hands roller. They all come with a safety device that helps keep the cord out of the way of and avoid any accidents.

Check installation

Blinds that haven’t been properly installed may be unsafe. Fitted insecurely, the blinds could pull away from a wall or leave a cord within reach. Make sure you fit your blinds properly, following the instructions thoroughly. Here’s a good place to start. Once you’ve set them up, check your blinds regularly to make sure cords aren’t tangled and don’t tie cords together.

Spread the word

It’s important to spread the word to friends and family members, such as grandparents, who may regularly care for your children and be unaware of the risks blind cords can pose. So why not forward them the window blind safety ideas in this post?
