Maximalism 101

Tips

Posted 12/05/2017

Introduce maximalism at home and go against the grain of modern minimalistic styles. Create a busy, welcoming atmosphere with rich textures, mismatched furniture and bold patterns. Take a look at our top tips to keep your home looking fantastic while you discover how to master the art of 'more-is-more'.

1. Keep it Bright

When you think maximalism, think vibrant hues, brilliant patterns and a harmonious mish-mash of colour. But to keep all of that working together, and to avoid losing your marvellous maximalist designs to dark clutter, you will need some natural light. Let bright beams illuminate your interior with a light coloured roman blind that will let the sun in and the darkness out.

2. Embrace Pattern

A big part of maximalist interior design is taking on those bold patterns – and not just on a feature wall either. Be courageous and clash different prints and colours to create an energetic atmosphere in your home. Whether you go big and opt for a patterned wallpaper, or take smaller steps with bright cushions and throws, an injection of movement and a pop of colour can refresh your interior. Add another splash of brightness with patterned blinds to really complete your look.

3. Color Pop

Whether it’s in a pattern, or just a bold block, no maximalist décor would be complete without colour. Make a statement and don’t be afraid to go bright to create a warm, inviting space in your home. Paint your walls, doors and - if you’re a die-hard maximalist - even your ceiling to achieve a cosy atmosphere. Don’t forget about your window dressings either, try a roller blind for a splash of block colour in any space.

4. Bring in the Botanical

Botanical is the on-trend design option that can transform a home and, if you’re going maximalist you should really think about incorporating some plants into your interior. Colourful, bright and vibrant, bringing the outside in will add new life to a space. Many a maximalist haven has been adorned with these natural beauties, but if you don’t have the green fingers to maintain plants embrace the pattern instead. Botanical blinds will bring all the splendour and tranquillity of the outdoors into your home.

5. Take on the traditional

With minimalism representing the super modern, then maximalist interior design is definitely the more traditional option. Often featuring pre-loved furniture and vintage inspiration, maximalism is known for comforting clutter and nostalgic knick-knacks, so include your window dressings in that style too. Opt for the traditional plantation shutters for a classic look that will perfectly complement a maximalist design.
