3 Simple Ways to Change a Room Without Redecorating

Redecorating, whether that means painting the walls or totally renovating a room, is always either expensive or time-consuming – and often both! But what happens when you want to give a room a lift or a new look without spending a small fortune on decorators or the next three weekends painting? There are some simple ways to change a room without all the rigmarole that normally goes with it. Here are just a few ideas:

1. Add a Rug

It may seem unlikely, but what’s on a floor can actually have a massive impact on the way a room looks. A good rug won’t just hide old, unsightly carpet – though that’s certainly a huge benefit – it can make a room feel lighter or darker, more homely, or more spacious. Jute rugs make a great  choice; they’re usually natural, they’re light in colour, and are generally quite neutral, so you won’t need to change your colour scheme or worry about them clashing.

2. Change the Curtains

For a quick change in colour or style, changing what’s on your windows can make a big difference. Thick, heavy curtains in a deep colour, such as burgundy or chocolate, can really warm up a room and make it feel cosier. Likewise, long, flowing drapes in a lighter colour and fabric will freshen up a room instantly, whilst a brightly coloured blind will add a burst of contemporary colour.

 3. Hang a Mirror

Mirrors make wonderful centrepieces, whether above a fireplace, at the end of a hallway, or next to a bedroom dresser. Not only are they beautiful to look at, but they can also add a feeling of space. Try placing one on the opposite wall to a window so that it can reflect the light and make the room feel bigger and brighter. That’s something every room could do with, right?
