Breathe New Life Into Every Room in the House: Part 7 – The Dining Room

Tips

Posted 13/09/2018

The dining room is one of the hearts of the home that it can be all too easy to neglect. Whilst the living room and kitchen are used right throughout the day, the dining room is only used at set times which makes it easy for it to become forgotten or cluttered up.

Lighten the Walls

A lick of a paint or a softer patterned wallpaper is all it takes to breathe new life into any dining room in the space of a single weekend. The country look is very in at the moment so give some thought to gentle patterns with a hint of the country and you won’t go far wrong.

Treat Yourself to New Blinds

It’s one you’re not too surprised we’ve recommended but its good advice all the same! If you want to spruce up one of your main entertainment spaces then letting in more natural light is certainly the way to go. Find the right balance between shade and sunlight and you’ll be onto a winner from the moment you hang your new blinds.

Get Some New Tableware

Nothing makes the dining table feel loved like giving it some new tableware to display with pride. Go for something that matches your new wallpaper and you’ll have created a theme that will endure for many meals to come.

Make Your Own Centrepiece

The final finishing touch as far as the table goes should always be a homemade centrepiece. This can be something as simple as a rustic jug with some fresh flowers. Just remember that you’re looking for a centrepiece, not a dividing wall. If things get to bulky and extravagant then you’ll find that you can’t see the person sat across from you!

Add Some Ambience

A dimmer switch and an iPod dock in the corner are great ways to add some ambience. By playing some relaxing background music and setting it against the calming feeling dimming the lights creates you’ll be able to add a homely element to the next evening meal.
