5 Ways to Transform Your Home Study

Inspiration

Posted 02/08/2017

If you work from home, whether full-time or just occasionally, or if you simply use a home office or study to pay bills or work on hobbies, you want to be able to do so in an enjoyable environment. Whether you need calm and tranquillity or colour and inspiration, a well-decorated space is key to working effectively. Here are some great ideas for making your workspace your own:

1. Keep it calm

Some of us need a workspace that calms and soothes, allowing our brains room to work! If this is you, opt for soft, relaxing colours, such as white or soft grey walls paired with pastel-coloured accessories. Keeping the room light and airy, with lightweight curtains and an organised desk will help too.

2. Add some colour

If you’re a creative type who loves to be in a vibrant, colourful environment, you might want to add some big colour to your home office. Think bold patterns and vivid tones, and don’t be afraid to clash a little!

3. Feature your storage

Often, the home study is where we store all our paperwork and files, and it can end up looking cluttered and busy. Why not make a feature of it? Add a vintage set of bookshelves or install a boldly coloured cabinet to hide your stuff in plain sight!

4. Go for comfort

An office doesn’t have to be all about function! Make this a room you want to be in by adding some small home comforts. If you have room, add a sofa or an armchair for reading or, if you don’t, be sure to include comfy cushions and a footstool for your desk chair.

5. Make the window a focal point

Have you ever noticed how it’s often the smallest room in the house that gets allocated as a home office? If that’s what happened in your home, make the room feel bigger by letting plenty of light in and making a feature of the window. Choose some pretty curtains or a funky blind to really brighten it up!
