How to Keep Your Home Warm This Winter

Tips

Winter is one of the best times of year to make your house feel like a home because it’s perfect for creating that cosy atmosphere that you never want to leave. Here’s 4 quick and easy ways that you can make your home cosier than ever before.

Get the Chimney swept

Sweeping the chimney may not sound like the most exciting job, but get it done early and you’ll be able to light the fire whenever you’re ready. There’s nothing worse than having to wait a week to light your blocked chimney because the sweep is all booked up. Get in there early and you’ll be putting your feet up in front of the fire in no time at all.

Dry your logs by the radiator

If you have a wood burner then you’ll have a log shed, but your logs will still take on a small amount of moisture when stored outdoors. Bring a couple of buckets worth into the main house a couple of days before you intend to light them so you can dry them out in front of a radiator. That way you’ll never struggle to get the fire going when you have guests over again.

Fit a draft excluder

Letterboxes are the most common source of those annoying breezes that seem to go right round the house in winter but are nowhere to be seen in the summer months. Fitting a draft excluder is a 10 minute job that just about anyone can do. If you don’t think it’ll make a difference then give it a try…you might just be surprised!

Pop a Couple of Cosy Blankets On the Couch

Snuggling up on the couch with the fire going and a good movie is what winter is all about. Keep a couple of blankets hanging over the back of the couch so you never have to get up when you’re feeling a little chilly. You could even coordinate them with your scatter cushions for extra style points!
