How to Spruce Your Home Up In Time For Christmas

Tips

Posted 06/12/2018

When the special time of year comes around again, it can be all too tempting to splash the cash on a whole new range of decor. Blinds are nice and easy because you fit them yourself in a matter of minutes, but you don’t really want to have painters and decorators trouncing through your front room a few days before Christmas.

With that in mind, we thought we’d put together a few tips that will allow you to spruce things up in a single afternoon.

Add plenty of warm white fairy lights

The multicoloured lights are great for on the tree, and look amazing outside, but there’s plenty of room for the cosiness of the warm white variety too. Fill a couple of mason jars and put them on your coffee table, add a big pickle jar to the breakfast bar, and dim the overhead lights.

Make a feature of your firewood

Nothing makes you think of the festive period like chestnuts roasting on an open fire, so why not turn your winter warmth into a real feature? A metal bucket for the kindling, and a wooden crate with a neat pile of logs is all it takes to dress the fireplace. String a line of cards across the mantle with some stockings at either end, and you’ll have the timeless Christmas look that we all know and love.

Match your decorations to your decor

This is something that most people don’t think of, but it will make all the difference to the way your front room looks. Pick a simple two-colour look for your tree, and try some matt tinsel rather than the shiny stuff for this year at least. You’ll be amazed at what you can create when you put your mind to it.
