Pleated blinds are a stylish and functional choice for your windows. Available with a range of features from blackout to energy-saving, alongside traditional and no-drill fitting methods, these blinds are a great choice for those looking for style and practicality! In this guide we'll explore everything you need to know about pleated blinds, from free-hanging, Perfect Fit, Clip Fit and Stick Fit, to help you decide if they're a good choice for your home!

What are pleated blinds?

Pleated blinds feature neat, fabric folds that create a sleek concertina effect, offering a chic solution for light and privacy control. The main difference in our pleated blind types lies in how they are installed. From traditional fittings, to no-drill clip-on and stick-on varieties, you're sure to find a pleated blind suitable for your space (and DIY skills!).

How do pleated blinds work?

When choosing the perfect pleated blinds for your home, the type of controls you select can significantly impact both the functionality and look of your window coverings. Our pleated blinds come with a variety of control options to suit every need and preference, ensuring ease of use, safety, and a sleek look.

Top-down

Available for Stick Fit, Clip Fit, and free-hanging pleated blinds. This control option is standard with most blinds, where the fabric is attached to the headrail at the top of the blind, and can be adjusted from the top-down - hence the name.

Multizone

AKA top-down bottom-up. This innovative control system allows you to adjust the blinds from both the top and bottom, offering maximum flexibility in light control and privacy. Multizone comes as standard with Perfect Fit pleated blinds, and is an option for free-hanging pleated blinds.

Corded

Ideal for the traditionalists! You can choose to have your free-hanging pleated blinds 'corded', meaning they feature cords which run through the headrail and hang down, alowing you to operate the blind. For top-down corded pleated blinds, you can select which side you'd like the cord to be positioned, providing flexibility in terms of installation and use. For multizone corded blinds, you'll find cords positioned on either side of the blind to allow you to adjust the blinds from the top and the bottom. All corded blinds come with safety devices which are secured to the wall to keep cords neatly and safely tucked away.

Cordless

An option for free-hanging pleated blinds, and standard for Stick Fit, Perfect Fit, and Clip Fit. Cordless controls eliminate the need for hanging cords, allowing for a cleaner and safer operation, especially beneficial in homes with children or pets. Cordless blinds operate on a tensioned system that allows you to operate the fabric with just a gentle push or pull, making them both user-friendly, and aesthetically pleasing!

How are pleated blinds fitted?

With a range of pleated blind styles also comes a range of fitting methods! From traditional bracket fittings to no-drill systems, there's an installation to suit all window frames (and DIY skills!).

How to fit free-hanging pleated blinds

Traditional, yet versatile, free-hanging pleated blinds are the go-to choice for a classic look. These blinds are fitted with brackets either top-fixed or face-fixed onto the wall using screws, making them suitable for installation inside or outside the recess. Their flexibility in fitting makes them ideal for various window sizes and types.

How to fit Perfect Fit pleated blinds

Designed for uPVC and aluminium windows and doors, Perfect Fit blinds come fully encased in a frame that clips snugly onto the window using brackets inserted under the beading for an integrated look. Most importantly, this installation process eliminates the need for drilling, making them a great fuss-free option! This seamless integration not only looks clean, but makes opening tilt and turn windows or patio doors a dream, allowing the blinds to move as one with the glass!

How to fit Clip Fit pleated blinds

Clip Fit pleated blinds offer another clip'n'fit drill-free solution, attaching to uPVC and aluminium windows and doors using brackets that slide under the window beading. Unlike Perfect Fit blinds, Clip Fit blinds don't come encased in a frame, instead the top and bottom rail are connected via cords. But worry not about excess light bleed, our Clip Fit pleated blinds come with adhesive side channels which sit either side of the glass to minimise light leakage around the edges and keep everything looking tidy! This style of pleated blind makes a great match for bi-fold doors thanks to nifty fold-away handles, a narrow projection, and integrated design!

These blinds are fitted by sticking side channels with pre-installed brackets directly onto the glass, allowing them to be used on all types of windows - even in caravans! Tested against heat and condensation and with a five year guarantee, these adhesive side channels can be trusted to hold up year-in, year-out. How to measure for pleated blinds

Accurate measurements are key for pleated blinds that fit just right! Thanks to our step-by-step measuring guides, the process of measuring your windows yourself is a breeze! Whilst measuring does vary from product to product, in general we'll just need two measurements from you - width and drop!

For traditional free-hanging pleated blinds, you'll just measure inside or outside your window recess, depending on where you'd like to hange them. For our no-drill pleated styles, you'll be measuring the visible glass of your windows to ensure a snug fit!

The benefits of pleated blinds

As stylish as they are, pleated blinds are more than just pretty! On top of their flexible control and operation options, there's even more benefits to be had when it comes to blocking out light and even insulating your home.

Blackout features

When it comes to creating the perfect sleeping or binge-watching environment, blackout blinds are essential! This is where our range of blackout pleated blinds come in handy. Offering not just extra privacy, but helping you to get a better night's sleep. You'll find plenty of blackout options to choose from in our range of free-hanging and Perfect Fit pleated blinds, as the same fabrics are available in both collections. Our range of Stick Fit pleated blinds and Clip Fit blinds also share fabrics, including blackout options to help you create the perfect setting for movie-watching and snoozing!

For darker spaces or any room where you'd prefer to keep the light flowing in whilst still maintaining privacy, we also have plenty of light filtering options in all styles of pleated blinds!

Energy efficiency

We're all about keeping homes comfortable and saving money on energy bills where possible! Which is why we also offer plenty of energy-saving pleated blinds, helping to reduce heat loss in the winter, and keep rooms cool during those rare UK heatwaves!

Due to their design, all types of pleated blinds naturally provide some thermal benefits, with their pleated structure trapping a barrier of air between your windows and rooms, acting as a layer of insulation. As a result of this, the closer your pleated blinds are fitted to your windows, the better insulators they'll be - making our drill-free options a good pick if energy-efficiency is top of your blinds checklist!

Although all pleated blinds offer some level of insulation, top of the class has to be our honeycomb pleated styles, available in all our styles of pleated blind. Their comb-like structure creates pockets of air that help to insulate your windows, providing an excellent choice for anyone looking to improve their home's thermal efficiency. For those seeking the utmost in energy-efficient window dressings, our foil-lined honeycomb pleated blinds are the gold standard. Available in our free-hanging pleated and Perfect Fit pleated styles, these blinds feature an internal foil-coating for that extra boost of insulation!

How to clean and care for pleated blinds

Regular use should reduce the amount of dust that settles on your blinds - but here are our tips for keeping them looking good as new, and the best part is you can leave your blinds exactly where they are to clean them - no need to remove and reinstall!

Lightly dust your blinds with a microfibre cloth or duster to brush off any debris.

Use the soft-brush or upholstery attachments on your vacuum cleaner on its lowest setting to gently give your blinds a quick once over.

Spot-treat stains using a damp cleans cloth or sponge, gently dabbing at the stain - be careful bot to rub or pull at the blind as to not damage the pleats.
