How to Prepare Your Home for Autumn

Tips

Posted 27/10/2018

With summer fast receding into distant memory and winter arriving in a few month’s time, it’s time that we turned our attention towards getting the home ready for autumn. With a whole host of new colours and textures to enjoy outdoors, there’s plenty of inspiration that we can use to spruce things up a little in our homes.

1. Make Things Nice and Cosy

It will soon be the time of year when the nights begin to draw in and you want to do nothing more than cuddle up by the fire. The evenings when you spent your time relaxing in shorts and flip flops out in the garden are gone for another year, which means it’s time to get cosy.

By crocheting a couple of blankets to drape over the back of the couch you’ll be able to add the homely touch that will make you that little bit more snug this year. Plus you can learn a new hobby at the same time!

2. Get the Firewood Ready

Relaxing by a roaring fire is the best thing about the evenings starting to get a little bit colder. You may not be quite ready for the heat just yet, but why not stock up on some firewood and kindling so that you’re ready when the first cold snap rears its head?

You could even source a tin bucket and a wooden crate and make a rustic display out of your wood. Put the kindling in the bucket on one side of the fire, and a small crate of logs on the other and you’ll have a new homely addition to the lounge in less than 5 minutes.

3. Treat Yourself to Some New Curtains

A big thick pair of curtains can be just what the doctor ordered at this time of year. Not only do they keep the heat in and the cold out, they can also be a great stylistic addition to your home. Match them to the same colour and pattern as your summer blinds and you won’t even have to alter the colour scheme of the rest of your room.
