Shutter Style ?

Full Height: Designed to cover the whole of your windows, from top to bottom, each panel is opened in one piece.

This is the most popular style in the UK, Full Height shutters create a traditional, classic look, whilst contemporary colours and materials help give it a modern finish.

Tier on Tier: Designed as two independent sections (top and bottom), giving you the flexibility to open either the top or the bottom of the shutter separately. Offers more control over the panels, thus allowing more options for light and privacy control.

All Tier on Tier shutters are supplied with a horizontal bar for additional support.

Café Style: Designed to cover the lower section only of your windows, just like the Parisian cafés, this offers a lighter privacy and light option.

The bottom half of your window is covered whilst the top is unobscured, allowing light through the top.

Louvre Width ?

The slat is the horizontal strip that your shutter is made with and can be tilt open/closed within the shutter frame.

The size of slat is an entirely personal preference but as a general guide you should want to try match the size of slat with the size of your window:

• 64mm slats - ideal for any size window and is the most popular choice.

• 76mm slats - suitable for medium to large windows.

• 89mm slats - better suited for very large windows only.

Larger slat sizes mean that your shutter will be comprised of fewer slats and it may be easier to see through the window and allow more light through when the slats are tilted open (compared to that of a smaller slat size) however the larger slat size may protrude from your shutter frame slightly. For this reason, the 64mm slat is a better all-around choice.

Please note that we only manufacture using these three slat sizes but not all Shutters may be available in every slat size.

Tilt Rod ?

There are two ways to operate your plantation shutters:

Standard: The standard option is a tilt rod that is placed in the middle of each panel that you can shift up and down to tilt the slats in to the position you want.

The standard is a more traditional option, seen on most modern shutter models, and is the popular option of the two.

Please be aware that you should never open the panel door using the tilt rod, this is for opening and shutting the slats only, and is not designed to support the pressure from opening the doors.

Hidden: With a discrete tilt mechanism located behind the shutter door, the slats are manually tilted by hand in to the position you want. The hidden option is a more contemporary option.

This is normally a metal rod, around 38mm from the edge of the back of the panel, near the hinged side. This is then applied directly to the slats, the idea being to provide a 'clearer' view through the slats.

However, at some angles, you could still the edge of this rod at the back.

Number of Panels ?

This is the number of 'door panels' that your Shutter is comprised of and is purely presonal preference. Please note that depending on the size of your shutter, not all options may be available.

Divide Height ?

The divide height is the height at which point you wish to split your tier on tier shutter.

Just measure from your window sill up to where you wish to split the tiers and provide this measurement as the divide height.

Frame Options ?

All Round

Ideal for larger windows as this offers the best structural rigidity.

All Round With Sill Bar

The sill bar keeps the frame rigid without having a section of frame running along the sill. The sill bar is a flat section of frame measuring approximately the dimensions below:

Left, Right, Top

Ideal for small or medium windows - this option means that there are no obstructions on the window sill.

Left, Right, Bottom

This is the option to select for the Café style shutter as these are designed to cover the lower half of the window and means that the top section of the frame isn’t a permanent fixture on the window.

Frame Options ?

All Round

Ideal for larger windows as this offers the best structural rigidity.

Left, Right, Top

Ideal for small or medium windows - this option means that there are no obstructions on the window sill.

Frame Style ?

L Frame:

Select 'L' frame if your window is less than 15mm out of square. Please note that gaps between the frame and the wall may require caulking.

Z Frame:

Select 'Z' frame if your window is more than 15mm out of square as this will cover gaps and require less remidial work/caulking.

Mid Rail ?

Available on Full Height style types, mid-rails add strength to your shutters and allow you to operate the top slats (louvres/blades), independently of the bottom slats.

This is different to a Tier on Tier Shutter, however where the panels on that type are also fully independent with additional vertical T-posts between the panels.

Measure from the bottom of the shutter to the centre of where you want the mid-rail to be.

The position and size of the mid rail may be altered slightly depending on louver and shutter sizes. The size of the mid rail can vary from 75mm to 110mm.

Please note that a mid rail will always be required for shutters larger than:

Daytona Faux Wood = 160Cm in height

Kensington Real Wood = 180CM in height.

Bromley Faux Wood = 170CM in height.
