4 Ways to Make a Small Room Look Bigger

Space is what we all want, no matter how much of it we already have. However, most of us must make do with what we have – and there are usually plenty of other redeeming features to our homes that more than make up for any lack of space! But that doesn’t mean we can’t make the most of what we already have – here are our top tips:
1. Use light colours
Using light colours within your décor scheme can help to make any space feel bigger. Whites, creams, and pastels all work, as do neutral colour schemes that incorporate biscuits, beiges, and pale golds. If you’re torn between wanting a room to feel bigger and wanting to incorporate your favourite bright hues, go for light walls and floors and use bolder colours as accents, such as in cushions, ornaments, or even window blinds.
2. Use mirrors
This one might be an oldie, but it’s also a goodie – use mirrors. By reflecting the space that’s actually there, mirrors can give the illusion that a room is bigger than it actually is. We’re not talking floor to ceiling mirrors – or anything so expensive or extreme! All you need is a large, well-placed mirror that reflects plenty of light.
3. Decluttering
Try decluttering your home. The less stuff you have, the more space you have – literally. Even if you’re already pretty minimalist when it comes to clutter, consider going for smaller pieces of furniture. For example, a queen-size bed is going to make a bedroom look much smaller than a standard double will. Likewise, do you really need that huge, imposing wardrobe? Take a look at what you’ve got where, and you might just find yourself with a home that feels much bigger!
4. Stay tidy!
Stay tidy! Sure, we’ve already discussed clutter, but have you ever considered how much bigger and more appealing your bedroom feels when the curtains are open and the bed is made? A messy bed is not clutter and it’s not actually taking up any more space physically. But a cleaner space makes all the difference to how large and luxurious it feels!
