Breathe New Life into Every Room in the House: Part 1 – The Kitchen

Tips

You don’t need to spend thousands or hire an interior designer to breathe a little life into your home. It can be done with just a few small, simple touches that are either free or cheap, and easy to implement. This won’t give you a full-on home makeover, but you might just find yourself smiling a little when you walk into each room. After all, our eyes are naturally drawn to new things and appearances, so you’re sure to enjoy each new look.

For many, the kitchen is the hub of the home, so it’s important we feel happy and at our best there. It might sound like a big, expensive job, but there are plenty of small things that can brighten up a kitchen without installing a whole new set of units! It’s all in the little touches that we add to bring in our personality and character.

  • Buy some inexpensive flowers from your local supermarket – or florist, if you have one – and place in a vase on the kitchen table or windowsill.

  • Invest in some fun fridge magnets, replacing the old, tatty paperwork you have pinned up there with photos you love, greetings cards that make you smile, and any necessary info you might need easy access to.

  • Place a brightly coloured fruit bowl in the middle of the table filled with all your favourite fruits, ready to eat. This has the added bonus of putting healthy snacks right in your eye-line, so you’ll have fewer excuses to reach for those biscuits!

  • If your budget will stretch to it, treat yourself to some new kitchen accessories in a pretty colour that you love – think new tea towels, tea and coffee canisters, perhaps even a new toaster or kettle to replace an old, barely-working one.
